An update from Ruth

I wanted to bring you up to date with news from the store this week.

As you will know, last weekend we took the decision to shift our focus entirely to operate a delivery and collection service only. It was a tough call to make, but these are truly challenging times for us all, and we felt this would be the best way forward to enable us to help our customers, our local suppliers, and the community in and around Truro whilst, at the same time, we try to keep everyone safe.

I am very proud of all my team who have had to adapt so dramatically to the new working environment, as well as those who have been furloughed since Monday. None of them would wish for this situation, yet they have been so kind and thoughtful, not just to me but also to each other. I’m also grateful for their hard work, ideas and determination during what’s been a very tough couple of weeks for everyone.

I’m also thankful to our customers for your continued support. We know not everything has gone to plan as we’ve grappled with so many uncertainties and a fast-changing environment, but we’re doing our very best to make it all work.

Indeed, the first thing to say is how much we’re missing you and your friendly faces in the store. We’re missing the chats with you, and we’re missing serving you breakfast, coffees, cake and lunch in the café. The store has been a much quieter place without you – although the same can’t be said in the offices upstairs where we receive your orders! Once again the telephones and email inbox have been red hot – and we’ve had to make a few adjustments to our service.

Tomorrow, 6th April, we start with a new home delivery schedule, which takes in specific areas of mid-Cornwall on certain days of the week. This will make things a little more certain for everyone and enable us to route plan more effectively. It also means we’ve been able to add St Mawes and Falmouth into the schedule, which will help a number of you.

We’re not stopping there… we’ve been thinking about ideas to help Cornwall through the Coronavirus, and very much looking beyond this awful crisis. I’m really proud to have played a part of the development of the county’s brilliant food and drink scene – the envy of many other regions – and it would be devastating to see that reputation, and so many people’s hard work and investment, slip away. The part you play by supporting us and other local independent outlets is really helping to prevent that.

We are all in this together, so your continued support and faith in what we’re trying to achieve is very much appreciated.   Thank you.
