Chin-Chin! Cheers to World Gin Day

Never has there been a time in recent months when spirits could do with a little lift, and this Saturday offers the perfect excuse! That’s because 13th June happens to be World Gin Day and, in our eyes, there’s no better place to acknowledge this fabulous international celebration than in little old Cornwall.

We’ve read that there are some 6,000 gin brands in the world, and an estimated 500 gins are produced in the UK. We know for sure, however, that 36 of Cornwall’s finest craft gins are stocked right here in our store!

Of course, you’ll all no doubt have your personal favourites, but we asked a couple of our fabulous Cornish gin connoisseurs to share their favourite gin cocktail with us…

First up,
Rose Tom Collins, from Hannah at Tinkture

Ingredients:

  • A good glug (about 50ml) of Rose Gin by Tinkture
  • 75ml fresh lemon cordial
  • 100ml soda / sparkling water
  • Lots of ice
  • A lemon twirl to garnish, and a rose petal for added beauty

Making your cocktail:

  • First up, lots of ice. Then add the sparkling water and lemon cordial (or fresh lemon with sugar syrup) and mix.
  • Gently pour Rose Gin on the top – do not stir just yet – look closely as your golden Rose Gin gently meets the lemon mix and starts turning pink as it cascades down into the glass.
  • Enjoy the moment, then stir – adding your chosen garnish and serve.

The measures are simply a guide, so to get your Tom Collins just perfect, you’ll need to trust your taste buds. Don’t be afraid to add more lemon, sugar (or gin)!

We stock all the essential ingredients including Rose Gin by Tinkture, lemon cordial by Cornish Country Cordials and sparkling water by Just Water (or cheat and use Polgoon’s fizzy lemonade!)

And now,
Cornish Bronx, from Holly at Holly’s Gin

Ingredients:

  • 45ml Holly’s Gin
  • 22.5ml Knightor Rose Vermouth
  • 15ml Knightor Dry Vermouth
  • 1/4 orange (fresh orange juice)
  • Orange Twist to garnish

Making your cocktail:

  • Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a glass and add your twist of orange peel.

Needless to say, we also stock Knightor’s Dry Vermouth and Rose Vermouth alongside Holly’s Gin.  It’s probably also safe to say that this cocktail is not for the faint hearted!

And if you like to keep things simple…

…then here’s our recommendation for a perfect G&T:

  • Plenty of ice
  • Double measure of your favourite Cornish Gin
  • Top up with Navas Cornish Premium Tonic Water
  • Add a Garnish of your choice

Happy World Gin Day. Chin chin!
