Christmas Tasting Days – week 2 Sunday – meet the suppliers

Our Christmas tasting days continue to be a huge success and on Sunday we are excited to welcome some more great suppliers into the store.

Read on to learn a little more about Pentire, Loveday Gin, The Cornish Larder and GoodH Brew…

Pentire was founded on a love for active outdoor living. Surfing until dawn, camping on headlands, nights spent beside a campfire with friends. The team wanted to create a drink that captured their surroundings in North Cornwall and celebrated everything they love about living here in Cornwall, surfing and coastal living!

The team have added to their family of drinks this Christmas with the introduction of the new Pentire Coastal Spritz which is perfect teamed with Navas soda or tonic.

We asked Pentire for their top tips for Christmas and they said ‘Get outdoors and be active as much as possible. Christmas is a great time for us all to reset so it’s super important to make the most of time away from screens.’

The Cornish Larder started back in 2018 as a way to collaborate and celebrate fellow artisan food and drink producers from Cornwall. They have over 11 flavours of award-winning jams, chutneys, relishes and sauces, each championing a fellow Cornish brand.

This year they are excited to launch TWO new Christmas flavours. A Figgy Pudding Chutney with Fowey Valley Brandy and a Cranberry Relish with Polgoon Mulled Wine. Both will take your Christmas cheeseboard and leftovers to the next level!

The Cornish Larder told us their top tips for Christmas are to…Take the time to wander around as many Christmas markets as you can! They are guaranteed to get you in the festive mood and you’ll find lots of new and exciting gifts etc.

Where possible, shop as local as you can or as small as you can. The big businesses will be fine but it’s smaller independent shops and producers that really need the support at this time of year!

Don’t leave it too late! Try and be as organised as possible to avoid missing out on products! Oh and remember to go easy on us producers sending products, the Royal Mail strikes may impact delivery times but we guarantee every producer will be doing as much as they can!

Formed late 2019 the brewery was set-up to produce innovative and creative craft beers. Over the course of the next two years when covid was having a big impact on the drinks industry, the team relocated to a purpose-built unit at Indian Queens, and invested in new kit and staff to ensure the foundations were there for growth. And growth there was!

They now have 40 different beers to their name ranging from IPAs to stouts to Gose to Pilsners… something for everybody! Come along and taste a handful of these beers on Sunday and pick your favourite.

And the top tip from GoodH Brew? Be well stocked. Not just in terms of beers but also good food and good company. It’s what the festive period is all about – enjoying time with friends and family.

Two chefs, a scientist and an award-winning distillery on the Cornish coast.

Three friends, Ruth, Daisy and Chloe, came together and shared their knowledge and experience in food preparation, recipe development, food science, alcohol production and design. The idea of working together to create a distillery had been brewing for some time, and as it happens, the upheaval of lockdown during the summer madness that was 2020 was just what they needed to galvanise them into action.

The goal? To create spirits with a meticulous eye on craftmanship; vibrant, utterly delicious flavours using fresh and foraged ingredients, inspired by the sea and landscape. They make their spirits with enjoyment in mind – unhurried, unfussy get-togethers with favourite company and a glass of something darn delicious in hand

They launched Loveday Falmouth Dry in April 2021 and It’s been non-stop since!  Loveday Golden Hour was launched in December 2021 and the new Kissing Gate gin this Autumn.

Loveday provided us with an awesome top tip for Christmas…There is no food disaster that can’t be solved with  another glass of wine or double cream.

Finally, we asked these suppliers what their idea of the perfect Cornish Christmas is?

Loveday – It would have to be a lazy morning with bucks fizz and salmon, having been unusually organised and got everything prepped the previous day, head out to a beach on the Helford for a walk, and ideas of going for a swim, and then backing out and having a flask of tea and a biscuit instead!

GoodH Brew – A white Christmas! But if we have to be realistic then to echo the above – enjoying time with friends and family.
