A Decade of the Great Cornish Food Store

We’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this milestone so special. To our wonderful customers, our dedicated team, our fantastic suppliers, everyone who entered our competitions, and all those who have supported us throughout the last decade – thank you.

Over the course of our celebrations, it was a pleasure to welcome so many familiar faces into the store. Seeing customers, producers and partners sharing stories, memories and excitement reminded us just how special the Great Cornish Food Store community has become. Looking back over the last ten years, we’re incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved together, from championing Cornwall’s exceptional food and drink producers to becoming a destination for local food lovers.

The celebrations also marked the end of an important chapter in our story, as our founder and Managing Director, Ruth Huxley, finished her time with the business.

For more than 25 years, Ruth has been one of Cornwall’s strongest advocates for local farming, fishing and independent food and drink producers. After completing a degree in Food Studies following her first career, she joined Cornwall Taste of the West as a market analyst before going on to establish Cornwall Food & Drink. Along the way she produced two books, helped create numerous food festivals and led countless initiatives that strengthened Cornwall’s food and drink sector.

Her passion, vision and determination ultimately led to the creation of the Great Cornish Food Store. More recently, in 2022, she oversaw the transition of the business into employee ownership, securing its future and creating a lasting legacy for both our team and the producers we work with.

We owe Ruth an enormous debt of gratitude. The values she established continue to guide everything we do, and we wish her every happiness as she embarks on her next adventures. Knowing Ruth, we’re sure retirement won’t slow her down for long!

As one chapter closes, another begins. We’re delighted that Richard Bain is taking the helm at an exciting time for the business, building on the strong foundations Ruth created while leading us into our next phase of growth. We’re looking forward to the future with confidence and enthusiasm as we continue our mission to celebrate and support the very best food and drink from Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Thank you once again for your support over the past ten years. Whether you’ve been with us since day one or have only recently discovered the store, you’ve all played a part in our journey.
