Home Martha Garmory-Amps – Retail Manager
Martha heads up a team of eight, managing the Great Cornish Food Store floor and liaising closely with more than 200 suppliers of everything from Cornish-grown lemons to the finest bean-to-bar chocolate.
One of the most satisfying parts of the job is providing a one-stop showcase for the huge range of top-quality produce – and especially seeing young businesses grow and thrive. The team get a buzz from knowing that every item they sell not only helps their suppliers but also boosts the wider Cornwall economy.

A lot of our suppliers feel that our shelves are the holy grail and I keep a close eye on social media to see what’s new.
Of course gin has gone mad. We now stock more than 20 brands. The ladies at Loveday popped up out of nowhere and went from making one gin to four and now make rums as well. I love that it’s an all-female company – and they have done really well.
After I graduated, I came back to Cornwall, where I was born, and spent eight years with a national supermarket giant in locations across the county, working my way up to assistant store manager.
Joining the Great Cornish Food Store was very different but it has been a really good career development for me. There’s a better balance – you feel more engaged and you’re not being worked to death. I haven’t had to leave Cornwall to progress and there is more job security here because we are employee-owned.
Being employee owned, we are proud of our team. Come and meet our amazing retail team.
