All

Onen hag All – One and All – is Cornwall’s motto and nowhere is that more relevant than in our local food system, where the peninsula effect encourages businesses to work together, sharing limited resources, creating co-efficiencies, shortening the food chain, reducing energy use, minimising waste, maximising value and improving opportunity.

It’s part of the territory in outlying regions like this, but it also puts Cornwall in a good position to create a sustainable future, conserving and sharing the most precious resources while working out ways to replace them with more plentiful or less damaging alternatives.

It’s a mindset that that has also created successful collaborations, notably where a lead business acts as a hub for several smaller suppliers.

The hub guarantees a market for the product, trains the suppliers to reach the quality standards they need; usually pays a premium for the product and takes on responsibility for marketing, keeping abreast of technology, etc at a scale the individual producer would never be able to.

This plays an important part in supporting and sustaining family size farms, which would otherwise not be able to thrive long term, while making big strides in innovation and raising quality standards.
